Heat energy is one of the main form energy. Even the coldest place in the earth or in the space has very small but measurable heat energy. Heat can come from sunlight, stove, burning coal, fire place, and many other things.

Heat energy is always transferring from a place with high temperature to a place with low temperature. So we can say that the direction of the thermal energy transferring is from warmer place to a colder place. Example, when you touch a hot nail you will be burn. Why? Because when you touch the nail, the energy of the nail is transfer to your hand.
