WIND ENERGY

Wind is moving air. It moves from one place to another place as a result of natural force. The wind blows because cool air is continually moving to replace rising warm air.

As the sun warms up different parts of the earth’s surface, the air above is also warmed. Warmed air becomes lighter and rises above surrounding cold air. In other places, the air cools, become heavier and falls down.

Anemometer is an instrument for measuring speed of the wind. It has three or four cups at the end of arms which blow around slowly in a light breeze. The faster the wind blows, the faster the cups spin around.
